Friday April 23rd will be my last day at Trisept Solutions. This is my current employer that I have been with for the last 7 years. They are the technology arm of The Mark Travel Corporation which owns and manages vacation packaging brands like Funjet Vacations, Southwest Airlines Vacations, United Vacations, etc.
Ok – background out of the way.
When I came to the conclusion that it was time to move on, I really didn’t have much emotion about it. I knew I was as far as I could go with them and I decided to dust of the ol’ resume and see what was out there. (Side note: I truly believe that resumes are such an antiquated way of looking for a job, but it’s still the current system we have in place.)
Now when I say that I didn’t have any emotion about looking for a new job; I mean that I didn’t have regrets doing it. If any regrets came up, I would have stopped looking immediately.
I was getting the feeling for a while that I wasn’t able to make a difference… That the machine was in full swing and there was little I could do to influence it anymore.
The emotion of the situation came along when I put in my notice.
I suddenly realized that I spent the last 7 years of my life trying to affect changes in the online travel space. I was leaving all the blood sweat and tears behind. It struck me that moving on was not as easy as it sounded. I became an important role player in the company over 7 years and now I’m starting over. I have to re-prove my worth to a whole new set of people; a whole new company.
I am leaving an industry I have a ton of experience in. I am leaving the online travel space that I have called home for the last 7 years. I am leaving 7 years of friendships that I got to interact with on a daily basis. I am leaving a company (Funjet Vacations) that I have become a huge fan of over the last 7 years.
Those revelations hit me like a ton of bricks.
It’s funny how things shake out in life. At one time I thought I was going to turn the lights out at Trisept Solutions. I had a great run… and I am looking forward to the new challenges that are coming my way.
